TBS cancels its fan-favourite comedy series premiere four days before airing

It’s clear that fans of one of the latest TBS comedies will have to wait a little longer to see her comeback. Thursday, TV line confirmed This is the second season of the network comedy series Chad It was pulled from the premiere, which was expected to be next Monday, April 11th. A new release date hasn’t been set yet, but it’s expected sometime this summer. Saturday Night Live Alum Nassim Pedrad serves as the creator, executive producer and star of the series which sees her portray a 14-year-old boy.

Chad follows a 14-year-old Persian-American boy (Pedrad) as he navigates his freshman year of high school on a mission to become famous. Chad’s friendships and sanity are pushed to the limits as he uses every tactic at his disposal to befriend the adorable kids, while he endures his mother’s new dating life and comes to terms with his cultural identity. The series also stars Jake Ryan as Peter, Saba Homion as Nas Amani, Paul Shahidi as Hamid Amani, Ella Mika as Nikki Amani, Alexa Lowe as Denise, Madeleine Arthur as Marjorie, Thomas Barboska as Red, and Philip Mullings Jr. as Ikma, and Jared Ball as Charles.

Chad has been in the works for more than half a decade, with Pedrad and co-original co-writer Rob Russell selling the series to Fox in 2016. In August of that year, Fox announced that they would not go ahead with the series, which would be marketed to other networks. It was then picked by TBS in May of 2019, with its first season showing in 2021, which debuted as the best written cable program of the year with a total of 1.9 million viewers for the pilot episode.

“I thought it would be really cool to tell a story about coming of age where the teen at heart plays an adult who shares the joke, and at a distance from that terrifying time,” Pedrad Tell Entertainment Weekly‘s winner Last year’s podcast. “Maybe you can push the comedy a lot further…the funny moments become funnier and less sad because you’re not sitting there watching an Iranian kid.”
